There is a building situated at the top of Sevenoaks High Street that is several hundred years old, outside there is a sign: "T.A.CRAIG - Dealers and Restorers of Violins, Violas, Cellos and Bows". Last year I often walked in the area and looked in through the shop window, I believed in a dreamworld.

One day I rang the doorbell and asked, 'Can I take some photos please?' Although I had never met the owner, Timothy Craig, he answered: 'Why not?'

Two weeks later on the day of the photo shoot, Timothy welcomed me with open arms. After a coffee he showed me around the workshop, his tools, then the shop, and finally I enjoyed his violin playing too.

However, when I uploaded the photos at home I was surprised. The photos appeared to be from the 1850's: old daguerreotypes, talbotypes, and pictures with collodion wet plate process. All with blurs, scratches and smudges. I still don't know how that happened... Thank you Timothy Craig!

Das mehrhundert Jahre alte Fachwerkgebäude steht auf der Hauptstrasse von Sevenoaks(UK). Oben auf dem Schild steht:  “T.A.CRAIG- Dealers & restorers of violins, violas, cellos & bows”.  Eine Zeit habe ich ziemlich oft in der Nähe gebummelt und durch das Schaufenster eingekuckt. Ich habe eine Traumwelt geahnt…

Auf einmal dann habe ich doch eingeklingelt: könnte ich paar Fotos Machen? Der Inhaber hat mich nie davor gesehen, doch hat er nach kurzem Gespräch gesagt:  “warum nicht?”

Im besprochenen Zeitpunkt hat mich Timothy Craig sehr freundlich gewartet. Wir haben einen Kaffee getrunken, dann hat er mir den Werkstatt mit seinen Werkzeugen und das Shop angezeigt. Am Ende hat er sogar noch kurz auch Violine gespielt. Im alten Gebäude hat es eine eigenartige Atmosphäre gegeben…

Ich habe erst zu Hause, beim Abladen der Bilder bemerkt, dass ich irgendwie Bilder ca. von den 1850-er Jahren geschossen habe. Fotos, wie alte Daguerreotypies, Talbotypies und Kollodium-Nassplatten mit verschwommenen Flecken, Klecks und Kratzer. Wie konnte das geschehen? Ich verstehe es überhapt nicht…
